Moving Waves is launching a brand-new Jazz class at our Harringay N15 studio for dancers aged 7–17, running every Thursday at 6:30pm. No experience needed, and every new dancer can start with a two-week trial before committing. Read on for why jazz is such a brilliant style for kids and teens, and what to expect in class!
If your child loves music, movement and a bit of sparkle, they're going to love this one. We're so excited to bring a dedicated Jazz class to our Harringay studio!
Jazz is one of the most fun, expressive styles for young dancers, brilliant for building a solid technique foundation that can be transferred into any dance style. Underneath the energy and the sparkle, jazz develops strength, flexibility, control and musicality.
This dance blends sharp technique with expressive freedom. It draws on ballet-based fundamentals while bringing in the groove, and attitude that make jazz so much fun to watch and perform. In class, you'll build clean lines and strong technical control, then layer on the musicality that makes jazz come alive: playing with rhythm, accenting the beat, and really listening to the music as you move.
It's also fantastic for confidence. Jazz encourages dancers to commit fully to a movement, play with facial expression, and really own the space around them.
No two jazz classes will feel quite the same! We'll work to a mix of music, including plenty of popular and contemporary tracks, so you'll be dancing to sounds you know and love, not just traditional jazz standards. We've designed this class to give dancers a genuinely well-rounded experience, blending:
Mixing these styles together means dancers build a broad, adaptable skill set rather than just one narrow way of moving.

This class welcomes dancers aged 7 to 17, and no previous dance experience is required. We'll structure the class so younger and older dancers are both appropriately challenged, making it a great fit whether your child is already training in ballet or street dance and wants to add a new style, or is stepping into a dance studio for the very first time.
We know trying a brand-new class can feel like a big step, which is why every new dancer can join us for a two-week trial before deciding whether to sign up for the full term. It's the easiest way to meet our teacher, get a feel for the studio, and see just how much fun jazz can be, with absolutely no pressure to commit straight away.
